gladwell.jpgThousands of public libraries have jumped on the "One Book, One City" bandwagon since Seattle sponsored the first citywide reading program a decade ago. But now beat cops are getting a piece of the literary action -- at least in Washington, D.C.

The Washington Post (3rd item) reports that Chief Cathy Lanier is encouraging the 3,800 officers of the Metropolitan Police Department to read Malcolm Gladwell's The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big DIfference and Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking.

In the coming weeks, Lanier plans to organize book club-style discussions not only with members of her force but also with city residents.
