$70,000. That's the household income level that Fort Lauderdale is considering as the cutoff for a new housing aid program. Yeah, Fort Lauderdale's got some pricey real estate.  But 70 Grand?

Affordable housing for the middle class--"workforce housing"--is an increasingly important issue for cities where housing costs are booming. Teachers and firefighters do have to live somewhere.

But it's hard to justify a new subsidy for people who are actually making more than the local median income. In Fort Lauderdale, that's about $58,000. Is anyone suggesting that we've solved the problem of housing people with genuinely low incomes?
