deer.jpg A couple of years ago, Governing ran a story (4th item) about some wayward deer. One had crossed the Golden Gate Bridge (taking up a car lane rather than using the suicide-prone pedestrian path). Another got hit by a plane -- carrying officials with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, no less -- after straying onto the runway at the Topeka airport.

In case you've been wondering what wacky place a deer might turn up next, here's this Indianapolis Star story about a deer crashing through a window at a Target to get to the snack bar.

"The deer population is growing in Marion County,'' said Paul F. Smith, an official with the Indianapolis parks department who happened to be in the store. "They get hungry, just like you and I do.''

Yeah, but -- wouldn't a drive-thru have been easier?
