brooklynbridge.jpg The May issue of Popular Mechanics includes a special report on "Rebuilding America," what it's going to take to get our country's infrastructure up to par. It's a sweeping account of what's needed for our ports, our roads, our bridges, our levees, and our electricity grid.

The report also includes a Top 10 list you definitey don't want to be on: "The 10 Pieces of U.S. Infrastructure We Must Fix Now."

It's a tour of bridges and waterworks that includes some familiar chestnuts -- the Brooklyn Bridge, Seattle's Alaskan Way Viaduct (which was damamaged in a 2001 earthquake), O'Hare International Airport.

But there are some others that you've probably heard a lot less about, including Atlanta's water system and the Dover Bridge in Idaho.

It's worth a look. As they say, you can't predict where the next infrastrucutre-related tragedy is going to be, but this list would be a good place to start.
