Self-Driving Car Tests Approved for Pennsylvania Startup

Since PennDOT announced a voluntary request for authorization to be submitted by self-driving car companies operating in the state, Aurora is the first to receive the authorization.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation authorized Aurora to test its autonomous vehicles in the commonwealth, according to a company blog post Wednesday.

Since PennDOT announced a voluntary request for authorization to be submitted by self-driving car companies operating in the state, Aurora is the first to receive the authorization. The authorization covers how Aurora can operate in the state, how simulation programs work and an the company’s safety and validation process.

The self-driving car company is partially based in Pittsburgh.
