Indiana Governor's Communications Director Resigns

Christy Denault leaves Gov. Mike Pence's office after PR disasters with the state's Religious Freedom Restoration Act and botched plans to start a state-run news service called JustIN.

Gov. Mike Pence's communications director is announcing her resignation, following a series of communications blunders by the administration.

Communications Director Christy Denault, the mother of four young children, including triplets, cited a desire to spend more time with her family in a resignation letter submitted to Pence on Monday. She said she would stay on through May 22.

"I am proud to have helped you run a positive, successful campaign. And I am equally proud to have supported you as you have advanced your road map for Indiana to improve educational opportunities, bring new jobs and improve the health and well-being of our state," Denault wrote.

Denault, who has worked with Pence since 2012, made no mention of the recent Religious Freedom Restoration Act debacle or the botched plans to start a state-run news service called JustIN.

Denault was on vacation through the searing week that Indiana and Pence spent under the national spotlight, after the governor signed the RFRA law. Pence compounded his troubles on the issue during an appearance on ABC's "This Week" on March 29.
