Bike to Work Growth in U.S. Cities Statistics, Map

Interactive map shows changes in bicycle commuting for more than 400 communities

bike_trends
Larger map icons represent cities increasing the most in terms of raw numbers of commuters who primarily bike to work, as measured in the 2011 and 2006 American Community Survey. Green cities saw increases, red cities declined and yellow markers represent no estimated change over the five-year period.

Click a marker to display data for each Census-designated place. The Census Bureau's survey records a single transportation type for a person's longest distance traveled, so workers biking to subways only count as public transportation commuters.

Please note that changes for many areas fall within the margin of error. Areas not shown did not report data for either 2006 or 2011. Some users will need to zoom in to select a city.
