María Hermosilla, a graduate research assistant at The Governance Lab, is studying for a master's degree in public administration at New York University.

Before moving to the United States from Santiago, Chile, she worked in the nonprofit and public sectors for five years, which included two years leading the citizen relations and information management unit at Chile's Ministry of Public Works where she implemented open government projects. Prior to that, she was chief of staff to the vice minister of energy.

Hermosilla also is a journalist with four years of experience in television as a reporter, producer and assistant director and as a freelance correspondent for National Public Radio.
