In the least suspenseful contest of the night, Attorney General Jack Conway secured the Kentucky Democratic Party's gubernatorial nomination Tuesday.

Facing only nominal opposition from Lexington activist Geoff Young, Conway kept a low profile after declaring his candidacy more than a year ago.

Conway kept his focus on fundraising and preparing for the general election while watching the four Republican candidates for governor become mired in allegations of domestic abuse and unseemly collusion.

Conway, who has served as the state's attorney general for the past eight years, hopes to redeem his political future this fall after a high-profile loss to U.S. Sen. Rand Paul in 2010.

While Republicans fought a contentious battle through the spring, Conway and his allies worked hard last year to clear the Democratic field and limit the opposition he would face in the primary.
