Marion Barry's Son Seeking to Fill Father's D.C. Council Seat

Marion Christopher Barry, the son of the late D.C. mayor and council member, announced Monday that he will run for his father’s seat on the D.C. Council.

Marion Christopher Barry, the son of the late D.C. mayor and council member, announced Monday that he will run for his father’s seat on the D.C. Council.

Barry joins a crowded field of almost two dozen candidates vying for the vacant Ward 8 seat, including a former deputy mayor and another candidate with the backing of allies to Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D).

By his name alone, however, Barry will instantly be a top-tier candidate.

For most of his adult life, the younger Barry went by his middle name, Christopher, but since his father’s death in late November, he has begun referring to himself as Marion.
