Jane Wiseman


Jane Wiseman leads the Institute for Excellence in Government, a nonprofit consulting firm dedicated to improving government performance. Wiseman is supporting an effort to create a national network of urban chief data officers to accelerate the use of analytics in local government. She also has advised U.S. cities funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies in its Mayors Challenge competition.

Previously, Wiseman served as assistant secretary of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and as assistant to the director for strategic planning at the National Institute of Justice. She represented the Justice Department as a staff assistant for the House Appropriations Committee.

Wiseman's prior consulting has included organizational strategy, performance management and e-government strategy work for Accenture and Price Waterhouse, with clients including the National Governor’s Association and the National Criminal Justice Asociation; the U.S. departments of Veterans Affairs, Commerce, and Housing and Urban Development; and the states of Massachusetts and Michigan. She holds a master's degree in public policy from the Harvard Kennedy School and a bachelor's degree in government from Smith College.
