William A. Sederburg served as Utah's commissioner of higher education from 2008 to 2012. He currently is a senior scholar for the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, where he chairs the association's Political Perceptions and Policy Priorities Project.

A Michigan state senator from 1978 to 1991, Sederberg served as president of Ferris State University from 1994 to 2003 and president of Utah Valley State College from 2003–2008, overseeing its transformation into Utah Valley University.

Sederburg has a master's degree and a Ph.D., both in political science and both from Michigan State University.
