Peter Ambs, an assistant Phoenix chief information officer, served as the CIO of Albuquerque from January 2011 until June 2018 and as CIO of the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department from 2003 to 2005. Previously he worked in the utility and health-care industries.

In Albuquerque, Ambs led a range of smart-city projects, including the digitization of business processes and internal workflows along with the creation of apps for city departments and mobile 311 functionality for citizen requests. In 2018, he was selected as one of Government Technology magazine's Top 25 Doers, Dreamers and Drivers. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in information technology from the College of Santa Fe.
