Peter B. Lyons

Peter B. Lyons, co-chair of the American Nuclear Society's Special Committee on Nuclear in the States, is a former assistant secretary for nuclear energy for the U.S. Department of Energy and served from 2005 to 2009 as a commissioner of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Before becoming an NRC commissioner, Lyons served as science adviser to U.S. Sen. Pete Domenici and the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. Previously, he worked at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, where he served as director for industrial partnerships, deputy associate director for energy and environment, and deputy associate director for defense research and applications. Lyon received his doctorate in nuclear astrophysics from the California Institute of Technology.
