Mitch Landrieu

Contributor

Mitch Landrieu, the mayor of New Orleans, was elected to a second term in 2014. Before becoming mayor, he served for six years as lieutenant governor of Louisiana and 16 years in the Louisiana House of Representatives. He was honored in 2015 as a Governing Public Official of the Year.

As mayor, Landrieu launched NOLA for Life, a comprehensive strategy to tackle the city’s historically high murder rate with a focus on prevention, intervention, enforcement and rehabilitation. With then-Mayor Michael Nutter of Philadelphia, he also led the formation of Cities United, a coalition of mayors that aims to uplift African-American men and eliminate violence-related deaths among them. At the state level, Landrieu led the legislative effort to reform Louisiana's juvenile-justice system.
