'Red Flag' Gun Restrictions Approved by Nevada Lawmakers

The amendment would allow police, family or household members request a court order to temporarily confiscate guns from someone considered a danger.

Nevada lawmakers have given final approval to a firearm safety bill offering a way to take guns away from a person considered to be at risk for violence.

The Assembly on Saturday approved the legislation mostly along party lines, sending it to the desk of Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak, who campaigned on tougher gun laws last year.

Democrats arguing in support of the measure say it would help prevent mass shootings and suicides. Republican lawmakers and opponents have argued the legislation is too broad and unconstitutional.
