Much of the city of Atlanta and parts of DeKalb County are still under a boil water advisory Tuesday morning after a widespread water outage Monday.

As of 4 a.m. Tuesday, there were no changes to the advisory status for most Atlanta water customers, officials with the city's Department of Watershed Management said. They are waiting for water analysis results before providing another update.

Large parts of the city were left without water Monday morning after an issue at an Atlanta water treatment plant and pumping station, officials said.

The outage affected the state Capitol, many downtown businesses and schools, including about two dozen in the Atlanta Public Schools system.

Students at impacted schools will get bottled water and prepackaged, ready-to-eat meals Tuesday.

The city of Atlanta said in a statement that due to a "control issue" at the Hemphill Water Treatment Plant and Pumping Station, areas had low pressure or no water. All water was believed to be restored by Monday afternoon, but officials say it is still unsafe to drink.

"All residents and property owners that have experienced water outages and/or low water pressures are advised to boil all water prior to use, or use bottled water, for drinking, cooking, preparing baby food or brushing teeth," city officials said.

The boil water advisory includes much of central and south Atlanta inside the Perimeter, as well as DeKalb County residents who use city of Atlanta water services.
