Ohio added an estimated 32,100 jobs over the month, buoyed by hiring in professional and businesses services, education, health and government. The state’s unemployment rate stood at 7 percent, far below its peak of 10.6 percent in late 2009 and early 2010.
Texas also saw its payrolls continue to expand, adding 19,500 jobs for the month. The state’s year-over-year nonfarm employment growth is approaching 325,000 positions, by the far the largest increase of any state.
Michigan’s payrolls also climbed by 18,100 for the month while its unemployment rate remained unchanged.
Seventeen states recorded monthly declines in total nonfarm employment, but the Labor Department only considered only four states’ losses to be statistically significant. South Carolina lost an estimated 7,700 jobs, while Arkansas lost 5,900.

Unemployment rates mostly fluctuated little. A few states, though, did report notable declines for the month. California and West Virginia saw their rates drop 0.4 percent, while Hawaii and New York’s jobless rates dipped 0.2 percent.
