He made the announcement at a party celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the construction company. He said he first ran for the Legislature to bring the voice of small, family-owned businesses to Montpelier. Scott co-owns DuBois with his cousin, Donald DuBois. They bought the business from DuBois's father, Ruie, by making weekly payments over 20 years.
At the party, employees and friends of the company ate ice cream, danced to country music, and tried their hands at running one of the excavators.
Jeff Newton, currently the general manager of DuBois Construction as well as the owner of a trucking company, will become a partner by the end of this year, Scott said. The company will buy back the shares Scott owns. Scott said he was unsure how the shares will be divided between DuBois and Newton. If he loses the governor's race, he will stay on, but Newton will still become a partner.
"I've known Jeff for many years," he said. He said he reached out to Newton to make the arrangements.
