JFK Airport Will Get Rooftop Park

JetBlue installed a 4,046-square-foot park at Terminal 5, which opens to passengers Wednesday.

After a long flight from Florida on Tuesday, one lucky passenger got a chance to run around on the John F. Kennedy International Airport rooftop—off her leash.

That passenger was 3½-year-old Sophie, a Maltese-poodle mix who was the first dog to try out the new park that JetBlue installed at JFK’s Terminal 5.

The 4,046-square-foot park, which opens to passengers on Wednesday, features plants, tables and chairs, a play area for children, and a fenced-in synthetic-grass dog run, where canine travelers can relieve themselves.

According to JetBlue, the new rooftop park is the first airport deck that is open to all passengers—not just members of VIP programs—and the only post-security pet-relief area in the country. That means passengers waiting for a flight won’t have to leave the terminal to walk their dogs and then go back through TSA screening.
