Northeast States Earn Top Transportation Project Awards

The fifth annual America’s Transportation Awards competition honored projects that improved safety for both drivers and pedestrians, eradicated major traffic jams, and helped communities reconstruct after natural disasters, according to the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO).

The awards competition, sponsored by AASHTO, AAA, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, recognized the best American transportation projects in three categories: Ahead of Schedule, Under Budget, and Best Use of Innovation.

Eleven transportation projects from seven northeastern states were nominated in those categories. 

The Maryland State Highway Administration was given the Under Budget Award for the US 12 Drainage Improvement project. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation was among the winners in the Ahead of Schedule category with the Wellesley Heavy Lift Rapid Bridge Replacement, and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation won for the ePermitting project in the Best Use of Innovation Catagory.
