California Tax Official Receives National Award

The Federation of Tax Administrators gave Lynn Bartolo, acting deputy director at the Board of Equalization, its Charles Mills Lifetime Achievement Award.

Lynn Bartolo, an acting deputy director at the Board of Equalization, has received national recognition for her work in tobacco tax administration and enforcement.

The Federation of Tax Administrators gave Bartolo its Charles Mills Lifetime Achievement Award, which is given in honor of a former director of the Petroleum, Alcohol, and Tobacco Bureau of the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance.

Mills died in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center while helping evacuate people in Tower 2. The tax administrators group created the award that year “to honor one of our own whom we hold in high esteem and to foster a higher profile for IFTA enforcement among our member jurisdictions,” according to federation’s website.

The nomination guidelines describes award winners as those who have “shown innovation, tenacity, and cooperation in his or her jurisdiction and, where possible, through multiple jurisdictions.”
