Montana Concedes Battle to Reduce Teacher Pensions

The state of Montana has agreed not to appeal a judge's ruling that blocked a proposed reduction in the annual benefit adjustments in the Montana Teachers Retirement System.

 

MEA-MFT President Eric Feaver announced the agreement Friday. In turn, the MEA-MFT agreed not to pursue the state for payment of its legal expenses.

The 2013 Legislature passed bills to reduce the guaranteed annual increases to recipients of benefits under the Montana Teachers Retirement System and the Public Employees Retirement System in an effort to restore financial stability to the retirement programs.
