sassy-1.JPGA national movement is afoot to crack down on dangerous dogs, from San Francisco, to Colorado to Virginia. Now counties across the country have a new approach: treating violent canines like sex offenders.

As the Northern Virginia Daily reported yesterday, Virginia's Spotsylvania County has created an online dangerous dog registry and nearby Frederick County plans a similar database soon. Spotsylvania's registry includes the name of the dog and owner, a home address and the dog's breed, color and sex.

Seminole County, Florida has taken its online registry one step further, with pictures of the dogs and their locations on a map. Brevard County, Florida has a registry too, while McHenry County, Illinois is considering one.

In Spotsylvania, dogs land on the Web site only based on an order from a judge (presumably without being convicted by a jury of their peers). Apparently, "Sugar Bear" and "Scooby" aren't as sweet as you'd think.
