Virginia wants to launch a barge carrying portable restrooms for boaters who gotta go but don't want to dock to do so. The "S.S. Relief" buoyed bathrooms from Mobile Equipment Company are already floating on lakes in California.

Virginia is trying to prevent boaters from using a bucket and dumping raw sewage into the water. The Department of Environmental Quality released a report on Tuesday saying some waterways are polluted with fecal bacteria, which could lead to beach closings and contamination of shellfish beds. And it can be harmful to aquatic plants and marine life. In addition to thinking about buying the drifting johns, the state is installing more sewage pump-out stations and a pump-out boat for boats to use.

The towed toilets don't come cheap. They range from about $40,000 to $80,000. But think about the relief to the waterways...so to speak.
