The Web Site is Dead. Long Live the Web Site!

A few days ago, the official Web site of the governor of Kentucky looked like this. There were more than 50 buttons total on the sides of the page and tons of news down the middle. You could find out the governor's public schedule, learn the state flag status, request a proclamation, etc.

Now? Poof! As of this writing, the Web site has three things: a welcome from the governor, his biography and his inaugural speech.

The reason for the new digital austerity is that Kentucky has a new governor. Steve Beshear was sworn in at midnight Monday night.

Occasionally, I've wondered what happens to a gubernatorial Web site at the moment a transition takes place. Although I wasn't clicking refresh at 12:01, it does seem as though Kentucky updated it fairly quickly.

I'll be interested to see how quickly the site returns to something closer to its more robust former self. After all, where else would Kentuckians go to request a proclamation?
