It's good to see Mitt Romney finally taking some credit for the health insurance mandate bill he signed into law last year as governor of Massachusetts.

Romney has largely tried to play down the law during his campaign to woo conservatives for the GOP presidential nomination. He brought the issue up, though, Wednesday in Iowa.

"I know the Democrats are talking about that" -- the 45 million uninsured. "There's no question it's going to be pushed by them," he said. "The Republicans have to talk about it as well."

Romney has devoted much of his campaign to denigrating the state he used to govern. His one term there is the only time he's spent in political office, though, so discussing the largest accomplishment he can claim is only fair to today's voters.

The Massachusetts law, by the way, takes effect July 1.
