The governors of Kentucky and Illinois must be playing from the same political handbook. Both Kentucky Gov. Ernie Fletcher (a Republican) and Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (a Democrat) have been under investigation for patronage hiring scandals in their respective states. In both cases, the hiring problems have somewhat undermined each leader's promise to restore dignity to his office.
But today, in a little bit of "scandal-dipity," both governors discovered the same way to handle their patronage woes: Blame the guy you replaced! Stories today out of both bluegrass country and the Land of Lincoln have the guvs pointing a finger at their predecessors.
