The prospective baseball stadium to be built here in Washington to accommodate the Nationals will cost much more than initially estimated. The Washington Post reports today that the city is already shifting $55 million away from other parts of the budget to make up part of the cost.
Someday, we'll have to do a feature about why big civic building projects always--always--have overruns. Are promoters necessarily disingenuous, or is there some inherent flaw in good-faith guesstimating that needs to be corrected?
