Lousisana Gov. Kathleen Blanco has vetoed a bill that would have designated an official state poem for the Pelican State. She said the poem "lacked sufficient literary merit."

The poem, titled "I Love My Louisiana," is a collection of 23 unrhymed lines by state resident and poet James Ellis Richardson.

Blanco's didn't make the decision on her own; she recruited Louisiana Poet Laureate Brenda Marie Osbey, who nixed the poem.

Maybe James Ellis Richardson can pen some stanzas on the pain of rejection.
