So says Mitt Romney, the governor of Massachusetts and head of the Republican Governors Association.
"We'll certainly lose the lead," Romney said on CNN. "So the question is, will we lose six or eight governorships or even more? But we'll probably lose quite a few."
Romney has sought to dampen expectations all year, pointing out that more Republican governors are retiring and leaving seats open this time around. Those states are indeed where Democrats are likely to score most of their gains.
But I'm not sure this is the most effective fundraising message Romney could craft here in the home stretch.
