Diana Elizabeth Kennedy of northeast Phoenix filed paperwork on Tuesday to run for governor in 2014.

Asked why she was running for the state’s highest office, Kennedy, 49, said, “I feel I have a lot of good ideas. I see that there’s a lot of changes that need to be made.”

“I would like to see Arizona on top in education,” she added.

Kennedy wants to run as an independent and said she has the support of some members of “the religious community.”

“I see in Arizona there are a lot of people that are homeless, a lot of people that didn’t get a chance to graduate high school or go to the military because of a lack of education and a lack of support,” she said.

Kennedy is living at a motel until she gets “more stable housing.”
