The mayor of an eastern Pennsylvania borough has resigned five months after he was charged with stealing $8,000 from a fire company social club.

The mayor of an eastern Pennsylvania borough has resigned five months after he was charged with stealing $8,000 from a fire company social club.

 

Nazareth (NAZ'-uh-reth) Mayor Carl Strye Jr. resigned on Tuesday. The borough council nominated Councilman John Samus to complete Strye's mayoral term through December 2017.

 

Strye was charged in April with stealing from the social club of Vigilance Hose Company while serving as its president from 1987 to 2013.
