Pence raised more than $4.1 million, compared with slightly more than $3 million raised by Gregg, as speculation grows that presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump could tap the governor as his vice presidential choice.
The new fundraising figures follow Gregg outpacing Pence during the first quarter of the year. But for the three-month period ending in June, Pence came away with more than $7.4 million in cash on hand, compared with $5.8 million for Gregg.
“As the campaign enters this next phase, we will continue to be aggressive,” according to Marty Obst, executive director of Pence’s re-election efforts, in a finance report dated Wednesday.
