Gov. Doug Burgum was asked to leave the Senate floor this week for wearing jeans.

The first-term governor, elected last fall, is well-known for more casual attire than most politicians, often favoring denim over a suit and tie.

On Wednesday, the North Dakota Senate's sergeant-at-arms, an official charged with enforcing various legislative rules, asked him to step off the floor of the Senate, where wearing jeans is not allowed.
