If you're a state employee in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Illinois or Missouri, today's a state holiday for you! Most places, however, long ago merged Lincoln's special day with George Washington's, creating Presidents Day.
Enjoy it while you can: One lawmaker in New Jersey has proposed changing the law so that state employees would no longer get the day off (although they would get an extra day at Thanksgiving).
Meanwhile, we're preparing for our huge Abraham Lincoln's Birthday Celebration -- you know, splitting rails, wearing stove-pipe hats, freeing some slaves.
