I hesitate to post this on the 13th Floor because, honestly, I don't think it's really worth reporting. I feel like this is akin to reporting on a mayor's getting a divorce or having a baby.
But this fact is, it is interesting. Steve Stanton, the longtime city manager of Largo, FL, a town of 76,000, has announced plans to undergo gender-reassignment surgery this year.
He's going to stay in office while he goes through the process, which could take over a year. Ultimately, he'll change his name to Susan.
As the St. Petersburg Times says, Stanton will be one of the few public officials anywhere to change genders while in office.
