Gov. Pat Quinn is taking a taxpayer-funded trip to Japan to participate in a conference aimed at increasing trade between that country and Midwestern states.

 
The Democratic governor left Friday and is scheduled to return Tuesday. The annual meeting is organized by the Midwest U.S.-Japan Association and will be attended by several other governors and regional business leaders.
