Sara Wurfel said the governor was taken to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital after he noticed swelling in his leg following some morning meetings.
It's not clear how long Snyder will be in the hospital, and Wurfel didn't know early Thursday evening if he would stay overnight. But the governor is in good spirits and good hands, Wurfel said. A blood clot is a risk when a limb becomes less active due to an injury, she said.
Snyder is "hoping to avoid surgery," she said.
Snyder has been advised to cut back his schedule and will be forced to cancel some appearances, including a scheduled luncheon speech Friday to the Michigan Press Association in Grand Rapids, Wurfel said.
