Michigan District Lays Off Nearly Every Teacher

The reason? School officials say as of July 5, the district will have about $2,000 in the bank and won't receive state aid payments until October.

Saginaw County's Buena Vista School District will have just three employees after Friday, June 28.

The district's Board of Education at a special meeting on Tuesday, June 25 laid off 20 teachers and staff members. Teachers are done at the end of the day Wednesday, June 26 — the last day of school — and administrative staff will work through Friday, June 28.

The reason? School officials say as of July 5, the district will have about $2,000 in the bank and won't receive state aid payments until October.
