The mayor of Hagerstown, Maryland, abruptly resigned this week with no explanation and after only nine months in office. Okay, fine. Resign if you need to. It might not be the best model of dedication to public service, but fine.

But if you do resign? How about, I don't know, spell checking your resignation letter?

"As of February 1, 2006, I respectfully resign the position of Mayor. I respect your understanding in this manner [sic] and will be glade [sic] to cooperate with any matters."

Hagerstown may be losing a mayor, but the real victim here is grammar.
