In Attempt to Boost Turnout, Maine GOP Stirs Voter-Fraud Fears

Republican officials in Maine warned voters to “come out to vote in order to secure their ballot from misuse.”

Republican officials in Maine warned voters to “come out to vote in order to secure their ballot from misuse.”

In an announcement sent early Tuesday, party officials said there was “a rapid increase in chatter related to potential election fraud.”

They cited the state’s lack of a voter ID law.

“We are concerned people may attempt to impersonate other voters in order to gain access to, and cast, a fraudulent ballot,” party executive director Jason Savage said in the e-mail. “We encourage all Maine Republican voters to show up at the polls and vote so that they can be sure no one attempts to use their identity to cast a ballot.”
