first playground. The one-acre playspace will be located in Battery Park City, on the southern tip of Manhattan, and will cost about $4 million.
Alan Greenblatt wrote
a piece for this month's Governing about playground design. He says that legal concerns and safety worries mean that most playgrounds today end up being filled with dull, molded plastic features. It creates a cookie-cutter effect, and any given playground probably looks pretty much like the next one down the road.
Rest assured, that's probably not going to be an issue with Gehry.
