Phil Scott and Sue Minter offer competing visions of how to make Vermont more affordable as the gubernatorial campaign heads into the final weeks.

Scott, the Republican nominee, has a plan for a business-friendly state. He's vowed to reign in state spending, while promising to make government more efficient.

Democratic Minter also says affordability is a priority, but has put forward sweeping proposals for benefiting Vermonters, from tuition-free college to improving the state's aging water infrastructure.

Scott has made the economy and capping increases in state spending a central part of his campaign. He's vowed to veto any budget that grows faster than the state's economy, but has failed to offer a specific vision of what he would be willing to cut other than Medicaid administrative costs.
