In order to keep growing the economy, he urged his colleagues to reduce government restrictions and cut through red tape to make Colorado more business-friendly, reports KWGN.
"Large corporations ... want to be in states where partisanship gives way to partnership," he said.
As expected, Hickenlooper also again expressed his support for ending a nearly $100 million property tax break for seniors, according to the Associated Press. Meanwhile, Republicans want to solve the state's budget problems by making Medicaid cuts -- something that requires federal approval, according to the Denver Post.
Hickenlooper also wants Colorado to legalize same-sex civil unions. if it does, it would only be the sixth state to do so, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
Politics aside, Hickenlooper also took some time (15 words to be exact) to honor his state's biggest celebrity, Tim Tebow: "Good luck to the resilient Denver Broncos, beat those New England Patriots on Saturday night." And in Denver, officials are doing more than just wishing the team luck, they're lighting the municipal buildings in orange and blue lights, renaming a street "Broncos Boulevard" and installing the message "Go Broncos" on 6,000 smart parking meter screens, according to the Associated Press.
