Even in an age of partisan extremes, there are still stories that can amaze.

Ted Gambordella, a Dallas martial-arts expert, is a supporter of the Republican Party and a "Dittohead" (fan of Rush Limbaugh). He's such a party loyalist, in fact, that he refuses to pay for his son's college education because the son has turned out to be a Democrat.

"Democrats are too extreme," Gambordella told the Dallas Morning News.

Debra Gambordella, a Republican like her husband, tells the paper that her son's politics are a healthier way for him to rebel than drinking or taking drugs. But she hasn't changed her husband's mind.

As a result, 17-year-old Teddy Gambordella has set up a Web site to raise money for his college education. "Help Me go to college, Stay a Democrat and Save America from the Republicans," reads the headline on his home page.

Questionable capitalization aside, as of Thursday afternoon, Gambordella Jr. had sold $4700 worth of on-site advertising toward his admittedly ambitious goal of $247,500.

He says on his blog that he'll use anything over and above the cost of tuition and books to help fund Democrats. (Note: He also uses old-fashioned methods of spreading his story -- namely a public relations agency.)
