In an odd twist of patriotism and opportunism, Somerset County, PA, where United Airlines flight 93 crashed on 9/11/01, is now branding itself "America's County." somerset-county-americas-county-4.gif The slogan will be used on marketing and tourism materials. Are county officials cashing in on a tragedy -- one that, it must be said, could have just as easily happened anywhere else along that doomed plane's course toward Washington?

The head of the county chamber says no. "Somerset County established itself as being a nice cross-section of America's values," he tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

But go to the chamber's website and click on the "America's County" logo and see where it (tries) to take you.
