Candy became subject to the sales tax in Washington state on June 1 as part of a package to raise revenues in an effort to span a $2.8 billion budget shortfall.

Candy is an easy target. But a long time confectionary man emerged to defend his craft against the new levy on public policy grounds.

We introduced him to you in the July 2010 Dispatch column. In an audio edition of this story behind the story, we have more of the interview with Brown and Haley President and CEO Pierson Clair for the record. Audio interview runs for 12 minutes.
