It looks like restaurants in South Carolina want the same effect there.
South Carolina doesn't have a statewide ban on smoking in workplaces. And only one town -- tiny Sullivan's Island, pop. 1,900 -- has a no-smoking ordinance.
But state health officials are struggling keep up with demand from restaurants that are clamoring to be included on an official list of smoke-free eateries.
Officials are citing a general turning of the tide, but also say that last month's Surgeon General's report on the dangers of second-hand smoke are causing more businesses to ban smoking -- especially if they perceive a boost in revenue.
