Back to Being a Democrat: New Jersey Mayor Switches Parties for 3rd Time in 7 Years

Mayor John Labrosse, a former Republican, rejoined the Democratic Party on Thursday.

Mayor John Labrosse, a former Republican, rejoined the Democratic Party on Thursday.

The change is his third party switch since 2010, and it comes less than a month after he and his ticket, the Labrosse Team, swept the City Council elections.

Labrosse says his party switch is meant to better align himself with the city's voting base, which is primarily Democratic. The city also serves as the Bergen County seat, and the county government is entirely controlled by the Democrats.

“I hold a lot of the values of the Democratic Party,” Labrosse said. “And I have some conservative values as well.”
